We will be touring the Tanner show with curator Anna Marley on April 4th. There are two aspects of your assignment to prepare for class.
1. Walk through the show, you don't have to spend a lot of time, but do take in the different sections and aspects of the show. Take special notice of the images of women and formulate at least one question to ask Anna about the show. Bring these questions to class in written form to turn in to me.
2. Read the chapter in the exhibition catalogue, Henry Ossawa Tanner: Modern Spirit, by Michael Leja, "Reproduction Troubles: Tanner's "Mothers of the Bible" for the Ladies Home Journal," pg. 147-156. Be ready to discuss the issues in the article with the class while we are meeting with Anna.
She is being very generous with her time for us. Please give her the respect she deserves by being prepared.
